Life is Not About Possessions

Luke 12 15.jpg

Verse of the Day:  Luke 12:15

Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

Christmas is exactly 25 days away and although it’s nice to be able to give gifts to our loved ones as a token of our love, it’s also a good time to remind ourselves that life is not about possessions. People trying to buy the newest car, the biggest house or the next big thing are never satisfied. Possessions cannot bring you true happiness, only Jesus can truly satisfy your soul. Life is not about the material possessions you have it’s about having loving relationships with the Lord, your family and friends.

The Lifter of My Head

Psalm 3 3.jpg

Verse of the Day: Psalm 3:3

But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.

Thanksgiving Day is over and not everyone has or was able to spend time with family and friends. For some, the holidays can often be lonely and even a sad time. I sometimes feel it too. I miss loved ones that have gone to be with the Lord and those who can’t be near me. But we are not alone, God is with us in every moment of every day. If we focus on the Lord, His goodness and our blessings He will get us through it.

10 Days of Thanksgiving – Day 10: Happy Thanksgiving!

1 Chronicles 29 13

Verse of the Day:  1 Chronicles 29:13

Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.

I want to wish you all a happy and blessed Thanksgiving! Over the past few days I’ve shared with you just a few of the things I’m thankful for but there are so many that I would never be able to express them all. I’m also thankful for the readers of The Consecrated Woman. It’s a blessing to be able to share God’s Word with you. Thank you for your continued support. I pray that you are encouraged and inspired daily. Please keep me and my family in your prayers. As we give thanks to our Lord today let’s remember that God is good all the time and we should be thankful every day of the year. May God bless you and your loved ones today and always. Happy Thanksgiving!

10 Days of Thanksgiving – Day 9:  Thankful for Everything

Ephesians 5 20

Verse of the Day:  Ephesians 5:20

always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I am truly thankful for everything God has done for me and the plans He has for my future. I am thankful for everything He has blessed me with, it’s more than I deserve. I’m thankful for my salvation and for the relationship I have with my Savior. Above all else, I’m thankful for God’s love, mercy, grace and forgiveness. I give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart.

10 Days of Thanksgiving – Day 8:  Thankful for Praise and Worship Music

Psalm 95 2

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 95:2

Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.

Today I am incredibly thankful for praise and worship music. Being able to praise and worship God through song is so uplifting and inspiring. No matter what is going on in my life at that moment whether it’s good, bad or indifferent it all just seem to melt away instantly as I begin to focus on God. It doesn’t just have to be at church. It might be at home or in the car. Sometimes I’ll be driving, feeling some type of way and the perfect song comes on the radio and it reminds me that God is always with me. When I sing along I feel connected to my Savior and am so grateful for His love and mercy and thankful for His presence in my life.

10 Days of Thanksgiving – Day 7:  Thankful for God’s Blessings

2 Corinthians 9 11 b.jpg

Verse of the Day:  2 Corinthians 9:11

You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

I am thankful for all of God’s blessings. This year was a tough year for our family. My husband was diagnosed with stage II colon cancer. By the grace of God, he is now cancer free, but there were times we didn’t know how we were going to pay the bills or put food on the table. When we couldn’t see a way, God made a way. He touched the hearts of many to help us along the way and for that we are forever grateful. Our faith was made stronger with each and every act of generosity. If we trust in God, He will always provide for us and He even makes a way for us to be a blessing to others. God blesses us so we can generously pour out our blessings to others, which results in thanksgiving to God.

10 Days of Thanksgiving – Day 6: Thankful for Spiritual Freedom

Psalm 100 4.jpg

Verse of the Day: Psalm 100:4

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

I’m thankful for the freedom that allows me to enter into the house of the Lord to praise and worship my Lord and Savior. Yes, we have a constitutionally protected right to religious freedom and that’s great, but I’m talking about the spiritual freedom we received when Jesus died on the cross and paid the price for our sins. I’m talking about abiding in God’s truth which has set us free from a life of sin and death.  Because of God’s love and mercy, we are free to have a relationship with Him. We have spiritual freedom to come into his presence to praise and worship Him, and for that I am thankful.

10 Days of Thanksgiving – Day 5: Thankful for God’s Peace

Colossians 3 15

Verse of the Day:  Colossians 3:15

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

When you have a personal relationship with Jesus, His peace pours into your heart. When you trust in the Lord with all your heart you can live at peace no matter what is happening around you. The closer you get to God the more start to see how God’s peace changes your heart. What may have once been angry and hurtful doesn’t have to be that way anymore. It’s up to you to decide if you are going to let God in and change your once hardened heart. Be thankful for the peace God freely gives through Jesus Christ to all believers.

10 Days of Thanksgiving – Day 4:  Thankful for the Love of Family and Friends

2 Thessalonians 1 3

Verse of the Day: 2 Thessalonians 1:3

We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.

I am thankful for the love of family and friends.  I’m grateful to have such wonderful people as part of my journey. Each person God has put in my life adds something unique and special to it and I love and appreciate them all. I’m thankful for the love we share between us, for the experiences we go through together and for the memories that will be in my heart forever. I’m thankful that in my time of need I have family and friends I can count on. As I thank God for them, I pray that He would continue to bless and protect them always.
