Use Your Gifts

Romans 12 6-8

Verse of the Day:  Romans 12:6-8

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

By the grace of God, He has given you gifts specific to the purpose He has planned for you and the church. Not everyone has the same gift, each one of us is unique but together we make the body of Christ complete. There are different types of gifts but it is the same God that works in all of you. As part of the body of Christ, it’s your responsibility to discover how to use those gifts for the good of the church and humanity. Whatever your gift is, your goal should be to use it to the best of your ability for God’s purpose so that He may be glorified.

Listening

1 Samuel 3 10

Verse of the Day:  1 Samuel 3:10

The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”  Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

Prayer is not only about us talking to God, it’s also about actively listening to hear the voice of God. We may not hear an audible voice like Samuel did but we can learn to discern when God is speaking to us by testing it with some basic principles. (1 John 4:1) Ask yourself these questions: Does it agree with the Bible? Does it make me more like Christ? Does my church family confirm it? Is it consistent with how God shaped me? Does it concern my responsibility? Is it convicting rather than condemning? Do I sense God’s peace about it? (Rick Warren) Spend time with God and be still. Listen with your heart and learn to recognize God’s voice.

Apply God’s Word

James 1 22.jpg

Verse of the Day: James 1:22

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

If you are just listening to or reading the Word of God but not applying it to your life and expecting your life to change you’re fooling yourself.  That would be like reading about a diet then eating junk food and expecting to lose weight.  You have to apply it to your life, you have to change your habits and it has to be a way of life not just a Sunday event.

10 Days of Thanksgiving – Day 6: Thankful for Spiritual Freedom

Psalm 100 4.jpg

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 100:4

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

I am thankful for the freedom to be able to enter into the house of the Lord to praise and worship my Lord and Savior.  Yes, we have a constitutionally protected right to religious freedom and that’s great, but I’m talking about the spiritual freedom we received when Jesus died on the cross and paid the price for our sins.  I’m talking about abiding in God’s truth which has set us free from a life of sin and death.  Because of God’s love and mercy, we can have a relationship with Him, we can come into his presence to praise and worship Him and for that I am thankful.

Blessed

Psalm 84 4.jpg

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 84:4

Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you.

What a blessing it is to be in the house of the Lord enjoying the presence of the living God. It is a privilege and an honor to offer our praises to our Lord and Savior.
