Refrain from Anger

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 37:8

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret–it leads only to evil.

During an argument, in the heat of the moment sometimes we say things we don’t mean and may later regret. We let our anger get the best of us and we lose control of our emotions. Anger in itself is not necessarily a sin but how we handle that anger and letting it control us is where we cross the line. The Bible says that one of the fruits of the Spirit is self-control and with the help of the Lord we must learn to control our emotions. In order to control our anger, we should first acknowledge it, pray about it, confess our weaknesses to God and ask Him to help us deal with any underlying issues that may be causing our anger to surface in such a way. There are many techniques and resources that can help with anger management and one might also seek help from a pastor and/or a professional. There is no shame in seeking help.

Dear Lord, Thank you for your mercies that are new every morning. I confess my sinful anger and come to you God, for help. Let your Holy Spirit guide me and help me to be in control of my emotions so that I may have peace in my heart. Amen

Confess Your Sins to God

1 john 1 9

Verse of the Day:  1 John 1:9

If we confess our sin, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Even on our best days we still sin in our daily lives and unconfessed sin can be a stumbling block that keeps us from having fellowship with God. Although our past, present and future sins have been paid for by Jesus Christ, we must confess our personal and daily sins to God to stay in good standing. The Bible says, The Lord is far from the wicked but He hears the prayers of the righteous. (Proverbs 15:29) When we confess our sins we are forgiven and purified from unrighteousness. Humbly come before the Lord and honestly confess your sins against Him for He alone is able to truly forgive. God is merciful and ready to forgive, don’t let unconfessed sin come between you and the Lord.

Earnestly Seek God

Psalm 63 1

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 63:1

You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.

If you really want to have a relationship with God you must seek Him with all of your heart, soul, body and mind. You must turn from evil, confess your sins and be obedient to His Word. You need to make time with Him a priority and you have to want it more than anything else. Be consistent in your study of the Bible and pray continually. Humble yourself before the Lord and worship Him with a sincere heart and you will surely find Him.

Forgiveness, Guilt and Shame

Psalm 51 1-2

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 51:1-2

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.

There isn’t anything you can do to earn God’s forgiveness. You are forgiven because of who God is not who you are. You are forgiven because God is merciful, loving and compassionate towards His people. God sent His only Son to pay the price for your sins. You have been washed from your sins by the precious blood of the Lamb. Confess that you are a sinner who needs a Savior and believe that Jesus died to save you. You can let go of the guilt and shame of sin you’ve been carrying with you because God has forgiven you and wiped your slate clean and now it’s time for you to forgive yourself and live the life God has planned for you.

Make spending time with him a priority over everything else. Humble yourself before him and worship him with all of your heart and you will surely find him.

Keep No Sin in Your Heart

Psalm 66 18

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 66:18

If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and has heard my voice in prayer.

We all fall short of the glory of God.  We are not perfect but what we do when we fail God makes all the difference. Put aside your pride, acknowledge your sin and turn from it. Don’t let sin come between you and God. Don’t let sin destroy your fellowship with Him. Humble yourself before the Lord and confess your sins, ask for forgiveness and He will hear your prayers.
