10 Days of Thanksgiving – Day 2: Thankful for Wonderful Memories

Philippians 1:3

Verse of the Day:  Philippians 1:3

I thank my God every time I remember you.

Paul wrote this in a letter after he left Philippi where he had gone through some very difficult times, yet he chose not to focus on the things that had caused him pain. The holidays can be a difficult time for people who have lost loved ones but as Christians we have the hope that we will see them again someday. We should try to be like the Apostle Paul and stay focused on the positive things in our lives and appreciate the great memories we have. Thank God for giving you the strength to get through difficult times and for the great memories of the wonderful people God placed in your life. Don’t forget to pray for the people who have helped you along life’s journey while you celebrate each day.

A Cheerful Heart

Proverbs 17:22

Verse of the Day:  Proverbs 17:22

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Feeling joy and being cheerful in ordinary things isn’t as hard as it seems. Granted, we are currently going through some of the most difficult times, but when we trust in God with all our heart we are able to keep our spirit from being crushed by the things going on in the world. To be cheerful, focus on the good things in your life and be grateful for what you have. God’s love and mercy give our hearts reason enough to be happy and knowing that our faith is built on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ allows us to be secure no matter what is happening around us. Remember, it’s not happy people who are thankful, it’s thankful people who are happy so let us give thanks to the Lord for in His presence is fullness of joy.

Praise the Lord at All Times

Psalm 34 1

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 34:1

I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise will always be on my lips.

No matter what is going on in your life praise the Lord. In good times, praise the Lord. During difficult times, praise the Lord. At all times, praise the Lord. Praise invites God’s presence into every situation. Praise gets the focus off of you and onto God and when you focus on God it changes your heart and increases your faith. Give honor, praise, and glory to God because He is good, He is worthy of all praise and because we know that all things work together for good to them that love God. (Romans 8:28) Let His praise always be on your lips.

My Deliverer

Psalm 34 19 2

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 34:19

The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.

Life can be hard and at times may even seem unfair. You will go through difficult times but don’t give up hope. Remember, the Lord has gotten you through tough times before and He will get you through them again. Keep your mind on the things above. Keep praying, cry out to God and be comforted in knowing that He hears you. Keep your focus on Him and He will get you through the troubles that come your way and in due time you will be delivered from them all. If not in this present life than surely in the hereafter where there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain but only eternal happiness.

Hold On to Hope

Hebrews 10 23 2

Verse of the Day: Hebrews 10:23

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

It’s easy to have faith in God when everything is going our way and when things are good. But when difficult times come and our faith is being stretched we can’t give up hope. As God’s children we need to hold on to the hope of God’s promises knowing that He is always faithful. The promises of God are exceedingly great and He fulfills each one in His own timing. God never changes His mind, He never forgets and His Word is true for all eternity. God will never lie, deceive or mislead you. Even if it feels like He has overlooked you or if He feels far away, have faith and remember He is always with you and He has never ever failed in any of His promises. Keep hoping, keep believing and keep trusting God.

Let God Work Through You

2 Corinthians 8 5

Verse of the Day:  2 Corinthians 8:5

And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.

Give yourself fully to God, devote yourself to the Lord and allow Him to use you to help others. Be so full of God’s love and joy that it spills over into the lives of those who also need Him. Be there for one another, especially in these difficult times. If you see that someone is struggling, by faith, be a blessing to them. Remember, when you help others God will bless you and provide for your needs too.

Courage for Today

1 Samuel 17 37

Verse of the Day:  1 Samuel 17:37

The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”

You may be going through adversity right now with everything that’s going on in the world but you can have courage in your current situation. Just like the Lord rescued David from the paw of the lion, David believed that God would also rescue him from his imminent circumstances and you know God has brought you through difficult times before and He’ll do it again.  God was with you then and He’s with you now. Instead of worrying about your present state remember that God has gotten you out of difficult times before. Thank God for all that tribulations he’s brought you through and thank Him in advance for getting you through this difficult time.

Praise the Lord!

Psalm 119 164

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 119:164

Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous laws.

There is no set number of times a day we must praise God each day but wouldn’t it be wonderful if we just stopped what we were doing throughout the day to delight and please God with our praise, to give thanks and honor to the one who is worthy of praise? We have so much to be thankful for and it doesn’t take but a few moments to say, “Thank you God!” It doesn’t even matter what we are going though, even in difficult times, through faith we can still lift up our hands to praise our God. We can praise Him with our words and with our singing and give Him all the glory!

Strength Renewed

Isaiah 40 31

Verse of the Day: Isaiah 40:31

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

As 2019 comes to a close we can thank God for seeing us through another year. Though we may have had struggles we made it through them with the help of the Lord. Personally, our family went through one of the most difficult times when my husband was diagnosed with colon cancer. But because of God’s great mercy he survived and through it all our faith was made stronger. The new year will soon be here and 2020 is not only the start of a new year but also a new decade and it’s the perfect time for new beginnings and new possibilities. Whatever you may currently be going through rely on God and put your hope in Him to give you strength and fortitude. Trust in the Lord to renew and refresh your spirit. You are more than conquerors through God who loves you.
