Make Every Day Count

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 90:12

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Tomorrow we will be ten days into the new year. Naturally we see this as a beginning yet we really don’t know how many days, weeks, months or years we actually will get to experience here on earth. Make every day count, use each day wisely and love the Lord with all your heart.

Give God the Glory!

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 63:3

Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.

Our worst day with God is better than our best day without Him. Our life, health, job, riches, friends and family and everything else are meaningless without the love of God. Everything here on earth is temporary but God’s love for us is forever and nothing can ever separate us from His love. We have so much to be grateful for and when we begin to glorify God for all He has done for us and count our blessings we see that His love is better than life itself.

Life is Not About Possessions

Luke 12:15

Verse of the Day:   Luke 12:15

Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

Christmas is exactly 25 days away and although it’s nice to be able to give gifts to our loved ones as a token of our love, it’s also a good time to remind ourselves that life is not about possessions. People are consumed with materialism always trying to buy the newest car, the biggest house or the next big thing but they are never satisfied. Covetousness is a sin we need constantly to be warned against; for happiness and comfort do not depend on the wealth of this world. (Matthew Henry) Possessions cannot bring you true happiness, your riches are found in Jesus Christ and only He can truly satisfy your soul. Life is not about the material possessions you have, it’s about having loving relationships with the Lord, your family and friends. It’s about helping others and making a difference in a fallen world.

Our Daily Bread

Matthew 4:4

Verse of the Day:  Matthew 4:4

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Just like bread (food) supports life to your body, the Word of God supports life to your soul. Your body can’t go too long without nourishment. Without food for prolonged periods your body becomes weak. It’s the same for your soul, without regular nourishment your soul too becomes weak. God provided manna to the Israelites satisfying their hunger and in doing so, saved them. Just like the manna nourished the Israelites, the Holy Bible is available to you to nourish your soul and save you. Additionally, good nutrition helps you to grow strong, is part of a healthy lifestyle and helps to fight off disease. The Word of God also helps you to grow strong, to live a healthy lifestyle and to fight off sin and temptation. Jesus Himself, was tempted by the devil and in response He quoted scripture. But if you don’t know scripture how can you use it to fight the schemes of the devil? If you want to grow stronger spiritually, nourish your soul by reading the Word of God daily.

God’s Ways

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 119:15

I will meditate on your precepts, and contemplate your ways.

A precept is a command or a general rule intended to regulate behavior or thought. Instead of focusing on your problems or things that upset, disappoint or annoy you consider the way God wants you to deal with them. Think about how He wants you to respond. Refer to the scriptures and be mindful and obedient to God’s Word so that His precepts may direct you in the way you should go. God’s ways are pure and good and they are always better than our own. Keep God’s Word in your heart and let it guide your steps through life.

Stop Comparing Yourself

Verse of the Day:  Galatians 6:4 (NLT)

Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.

Don’t fall into the enemy’s trap of comparing yourself to anyone else. Comparing yourself to someone who is better off than you can cause you to become jealous or envious. Likewise, comparing yourself to someone who is not doing as well as you could cause you to become vain and prideful. Just concern yourself with your own actions and conduct but if you are determined to compare yourself, compare yourself to Christ. Focus on being the best person you can be by following the example of Jesus Christ and live your life according to God’s Word.

Morning Prayer

Psalm 5 3

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 5:3

In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.

The most important thing you can do to start your day is to spend time with the Lord in prayer.  Thank Him for waking you up and giving you another day of life. Praise the Him for His goodness and His mercy that starts new every morning. Lay your requests and concerns at His feet. Invite Him into every part of your day. Be consistent and diligent with your prayers, always praying with the confidence that God hears you. Make time to pray every morning and ask God to give you the peace and guidance you need to go through your day.

Wait, Hope, Believe

Psalm 27 14 2

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 27:14

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

We’re not always good at waiting, it’s just our nature. We get impatient, frustrated and start to doubt God’s will in our lives. Instead we need to be confident in God’s love for us. We need to wait on the Lord’s timing, hope in His mercy and believe in His promises!

Your Thoughts Matter

Proverbs 4 23 (GNT)

Verse of the Day:  Proverbs 4:23

Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts. (GNT)

If you think your thoughts don’t matter you are very wrong.  When you think about things or believe something, whether it’s good or bad, it turns into the things you do. If you do these things enough times they turn into a habit. Your habits determine your character and your character determines your spiritual life. Ultimately, your spiritual life determines where you will spend eternity. So you see, your thoughts really do matter.

Enjoy Life

Ecclesiastes 3 12

Verse of the Day:  Ecclesiastes 3:12

I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.

God has given you the precious gift of life and He wants you to be happy and enjoy it. Enjoy all of God’s blessings with a thankful heart. Enjoy yourself in the things of the Lord. Spend time doing things that make you happy with the people you love. Whenever have the opportunity to do good for others, do it. Life is short and God doesn’t want you to go through it sad or discouraged. Be happy, keep life simple, love God and love people.
