Compassion for the Impoverished

Matthew 9 36

Verse of the Day:  Matthew 9:36

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Jesus was not only concerned for the souls of the multitudes who followed Him, but also for their physical needs. We are called to be Christlike – gentle, caring and compassionate. There is a homeless epidemic in this country, many people are living in poverty and people are going hungry every day. The Coronavirus pandemic is making a complex problem even worse with many people losing their jobs, their homes and ultimately their lives. Everywhere you look there are people who desperately need help and more importantly, they need Jesus. People are hurting and it’s up to us as Christians to find a way to do what we can to help them by sharing the love and compassion of God and to bring souls to the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ. If not us, then who?

Give It to God

Psalm 62 5

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 62:5

Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.

There may be times when all your efforts lead to disappointment, your plans don’t work out, temptation may seem to great or your current situation seems hopeless. Don’t lose hope, turn to God, leave it all in His sovereign hands. Wait patiently on the Lord and on His promises. Find rest in the Lord for when you put your problems in God’s hands He puts peace in your heart.

Trust in the Lord

Isaiah 26 4

Verse of the Day:  Isaiah 26:4

Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.

Building trust takes time but the more you get to know God, the more your trust in Him will grow.  When we think about a rock we think of something solid, strong, supportive and able to withstand pressure and when we call a person our rock they usually have the same attributes. God is the same way, you can always rely on Him and when you truly trust in God you will experience the perfect peace that comes from knowing that He is in control. Worrying doesn’t change a thing, instead of focusing on your problems put your efforts into getting closer to God. Let go of worry and let God have His way in your life.

A Bitter Heart

Matthew 12 34.jpg

Verse of the Day:  Matthew 12:34

You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good?  For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

Don’t let evil thoughts and feelings fester in your heart.   If you are holding on to some sort of bitterness try to get to the bottom of what is making you feel this way. Ask God to help you get rid of any resentment and anger you may be holding on to. Eventually, what is in your heart will pour out of your mouth and cause you problems.

God’s Ways

Psalm 119 15.jpg

Verse of the Day: Psalm 119:15

I will meditate on your precepts, and contemplate your ways.

Do you know what a precept is?  It is a command, a general rule intended to regulate behavior or thought.  Instead of focusing on your problems or things that upset, disappoint or annoy you think about the way God wants you to deal with them, how He wants you to respond.  God’s ways are pure and good and they are always better than your ways.

God Will See You Through It

1 psalm 34 19 9-4

Verse of the Day:  Psalm 34:19

The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.

The Bible never says that we, as believers in Christ, will not have troubles or that our lives will be problem free.  However, it does say that though we may have troubles, the Lord will deliver us from them all.  This verse gives us hope and encouragement to know that when you go through something difficult God is always there to help you.  Have faith in God to see you through your troubles.
