Verse of the Day: Matthew 26:1-5; Matthew 26:6-13 and Matthew 26:14-16
The Plot Against Jesus
1 When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, 2 “As you know, the Passover is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.” 3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, 4 and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. 5 “But not during the festival,” they said, “or there may be a riot among the people.”
Jesus Anointed at Bethany
6 While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper, 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table. 8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked. 9 “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.” 10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me.11 The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me.12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
14 Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests 15 and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. 16 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 11:24
One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
When it comes to our finances God’s way differs from man’s way. The worldly way of thinking when it comes to money is to make it, save it and keep it. But we all know you can’t take it with you. God’s way is to tithe, be generous to God’s work and give liberally to the poor. Everything we have comes from God and we’re merely managers of it. The more you give, the more God gives to you and you become richer in wealth and more blessed by God. True wealth is measured by what’s in your heart not by what’s in your wallet.
Verse of the Day: Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Let your light shine by doing good deeds so that others will be led to glorify God. There are so many people in need of help right in your very own community. Volunteering your time at homeless shelters, food banks or at some other nonprofit organization that has a place in your heart will help people experience the love and goodness of God. When you love God with all your heart you can’t help but feel compassion for the poor and needy just like Jesus did. Let God’s love shine through you because faith without works is dead.
Verse of the Day: Proverbs 11:25
A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
Be kind and generous to others because God has been kind and generous to you. When you’re generous to the poor God will always make sure you are taken care of. Trust in God’s promises and help those in need.
Verse of the Day: Psalm 72:13
He will have compassion on the poor and needy, And the lives of the needy he will save.
The Lord has compassion on the weak and needy. We must also have a heart of compassion for those in need. If there’s a specific issue that touches your heart, take the next step and make a donation or volunteer your time to an organization that addresses those needs. Let God guide you in how you can be of service.
Verse of the Day: Matthew 25:35
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.
By showing compassion and kindness to those in need you’re sharing God’s love and mercy. Let everything you do be done as if you are doing it for the Lord. Let God work through you to fill the needs of His people. Don’t wait for someone else to do what God has called you to do.
Verse of the Day: Hebrews 10:24
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
Let your love for God and your gratitude for His mercy and goodness inspire you to share His love with others. Let’s motivate each other and encourage acts of love and service for those in need so that our heavenly Father may be glorified. We need to do something, help somebody, invite someone because if we don’t then who will?
