Love is the Greatest Virtue

1 Corinthians 13 13

Verse of the Day:  1 Corinthians 13:13

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love.  But the greatest of these is love.

The dictionary defines love as an intense feeling of deep affection.  But the Bible tells us that love is much more than a feeling, it’s the most important and greatest virtue of all.  Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

Love is Kind

Proverbs 3 3

Verse of the Day:  Proverbs 3:3

Do not let kindness and truth leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.

Love is kind and your kindness shows compassion to the people you love.  Sometimes we slip into a comfortable state where we take each other for granted, not intentionally, but it happens and we no longer go out of our way to be kind.  The Bible tells us over and over that we should be kind to one another.  How much more should we intentionally be kind to our loved ones?  Let’s choose to go out of our way to show kindness to the people we love.

Be a God Pleaser

galatians 1 10

Verse of the Day:  Galatians 1:10

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

We all fall into the trap of trying to please people, especially the people we love.  But the truth is, the only one we really need to please is God. Don’t be negatively influenced by people who don’t know God, instead be strong in what you believe and why you believe it.   By living a life that is focused on God’s truth and is pleasing to Him we will attract the right people into our lives.

Hope of Eternal Life with God

Revelation 21 4

Verse of the Day:  Revelation 21:4

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

There is no denying that evil exists in this world.  Some may ask why God allows horrible events to happen.  The truth is we may never have the answer to this question.  What we do know is that God loves us so much He sent His only Son to offer salvation to all. Even though we may suffer in this world, as Christians, we have the hope of eternal life with God.

Change Begins with Ourselves

2 Chronicles 7 14.jpg

Verse of the Day: 2 Chronicles 7:14

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sins and restore their land.

The lack of morality and having no relationship with God is what’s wrong with our society today.  How do we fix it? We humble ourselves, pray, seek God and turn from our wicked ways.  If we do these things God will hear us, forgive us and heal our land. To change the world, we must first change ourselves.

Brag About the Lord

Jeremiah 9 23-24.jpg

Verse of the Day:  Jeremiah 9:23-24

This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord.

Your true wisdom and value is not found in your own understanding, power or riches.  It is found in knowing God and in salvation.  I cannot boast about anything I have but I can boast about knowing the Lord. I can boast about His kindness, justice and righteousness. Everything I have and everything I am is because of Him and because of His unfailing love and mercy.  If you’re going to brag about something, brag about the Lord.

The Golden Rule

Matthew 7 12.jpg

Verse of the Day:  Matthew 7:12

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

People think the “Golden Rule” was made up by man, but it’s actually Biblical. It’s so basic and fundamental that we teach it to our children yet, we as adults sometimes forget the principle.  Treat others with fairness and mercy just as you would like to be treated.
